Introduction

Urbanization in India is growing at much faster rate(find the real annual growth rate) due to the economic growth & deepening of linkage between global and Indian economy, couple with that rural distress is also pushing people towards the urban centres

Urban areas has facing host of problems in current period of time

One of them is increasing social isolation of individual due to long working hours, blast attitude etc.

This trend has resulted into the growth in the cases of poor mental health, increasing crime and violence, especially against the women and children.

Lack of affordable housing is another major challenge that many urban centres face. This is given rise to the slum areas where availability of basic civic facilities are absent leading to lower quality of human life and poor socio economic indicators.

Urban areas are also show high rate of income inequality which resulted into class gettoizarion and differentiation power of bargaining in political sphere.

At economic front many of urban centres are not able to generate enough formal level jobs due to capital intensive nature of economic development.

For the lower class communities, deprivation from accessing govt sponsered service are high due to administrative reasons.

Problem of ageing is also high in the urban areas as nuclear families are in rise leading aged person alone in home. This has made them vulnerable towards crime and violance as highlighted by the NCRB data.

Nevertheless, urban growth will not going to slow down in near future, thus there is need to resolve these issues with keeping sociological perspective in mind. This will help in reduce the level of Anomie, minimise social isolation, increase productivity of aged people and protect the vulnerable section from most derivative incidents.

  2. Smart city and AMRUT project to make cities future ready.
  3. JAGA scheme by Odisha Govt for slum rehabilitation.
  4. One nation one ratio card for food security.
  5. NULM for the generation of self-employment.
  6. PM Ayushman Bharat for health security.
  7. SABLA schemes for women security.
